A Surprise Birthday Weekend
Blog|更新日:2019年7月19日/金曜日
This Sunday, July 21st is my birthday, and to celebrate, my wife is taking me on a trip. It’s something that we do for each other when we can, but one important detail is that whoever is planning the trip has to keep the destination a secret. In the past we’ve gone to Shizuoka, Takayama, and Toba, but this year I have no idea where we’re going! I’m very curious, but my wife won’t tell me, and to be honest I’m really looking forward to the surprise. I’ve never been a fan of celebrating my birthday in the past, but doing this can be quite exciting. I’ve actually started to care about my own birthday.
Taking trips with family or friends is one of my favorite things to do. In the US, I often took road trips to other states – I even drove up to Canada a few times! – so driving to mystery destinations around Japan brings back some of the excitement I felt back then. And we usually go somewhere in the mountains or countryside, so it’s a great chance to get away from busy Nagoya city life and enjoy a couple days somewhere quiet. And of course there’s always great food.
I have no idea where we’ll be headed when I get in the car tomorrow morning, but I’m really excited to find out!
