In my last post, I talked about a surprise trip I was going to take for my birthday weekend.  My wife didn’t actually tell me where we were going until we got there, and, to be honest, I never would have guessed the destination!  We first stopped in Shimizu, Shizuoka for a really delicious lunch where we ate one of my favorite Japanese foods – hitsumabushi.  The restaurant was known for its eel, and the food was delicious!  

After a satisfying lunch, we got back on the road and finally arrived at the mystery location.  It was Kawaguchi-ko, which is located near Mount Fuji in Yamanashi.  The view from our hotel was beautiful.  We could see Mount Fuji very clearly, and according to the concierge at the hotel, the day we arrived was the first clear day in weeks, as it had been quite rainy around that time.  We relaxed and ate great food and walked around the area a little bit.  It was a wonderful time!
