もうすぐ夏休みが終わりますね。

日中もまだまだ暑い日が続きますが、夏の終わりを感じられるような日もあります。

学校が間もなく始まりますね。

Jambo everyone and welcome back to part two of our look at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! 

This week we’re going to be looking at all of the attractions you can book at Animal Kingdom using the new Genie+ system! 

The new Disney Genie+ service has launched at Disney World, officially replacing FastPass+. For $15 per person, per day, guests can reserve time windows and use a special ride entrance that will allow them to experience shorter wait times. At Animal Kingdom, these Genie+ attractions include:

Expedition Everest

A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King
DINOSAUR
It’s Tough to Be a Bug!
Kali River Rapids
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Na’vi River Journey
The Animation Experience
Feathered Friends in Flight

Additionally, there are two rides that are not included with the Genie+ service. These individual Lightning Lane selections are available separately for purchase. The cost varies by day, anywhere from $7 to $15 per person. Animal Kingdom’s individual Lighting Lane selections include:

Avatar Flight of Passage
Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

Animal Kingdom has the least amount of Genie+ rides, so it may not always make enough sense to get Genie+. If you have base tickets and Animal Kingdom is the only park you’re visiting for the day, you’ll have more time in the park and the chances are higher that you’ll get all of your priorities done. But if you’re park hopping, you might want to get Genie+ so you can fit in as many rides as you can.

As for the individual Lightning Lane selections, I think it’s worth getting access for Avatar Flight of Passage. It’s the most popular attraction in the park, and it’s highly likely that you’ll save more time by using the Lightning Lane versus waiting in the standby line. Expedition Everest, on the other hand, may not be a necessity, unless you’re traveling during a peak season. Instead, we’d hold off until you can assess wait times for the standby line. You might be able to hop right in when it’s low! And if you’re park hopping, you could save your second individual Lightning Lane selection for a ride at a different park.

これらは日本食で英語で表記したものです。

外国の方に日本食を示すためにどう表現しようかと考えるのですが

日本のものは日本の読み方で良いのだと肩透かしを食らったように

簡単でびっくりするのと同時にちゃんと正式な表記か確かめてからでないと

言うのに勇気がいりますが、知ってしまえばこれからは堂々と日本の食べものを

いうことができますね。日本の誇るmatcha！のような。

特に豆腐の種類など木綿豆腐に絹ごし豆腐の言い方なんて英語で区別できると

さらに食べ物の話題で盛り上がれそうです。

ちなみに私は絹ごし豆腐の方が好きですが、もちろんおでんには木綿豆腐

夏にはからし豆腐、すき焼きにはすき焼き用の固い豆腐も時々食べたくなります。

ぎせいどうふにこもどうふ・・・そんな違いも外国の方に紹介したくなりますね。

秋は近いけどまだまだ夏を楽しもう～

To refresh from my last blog post, we were doing an art challenge to compare Sakura Coupy-Pencils to the Crayola Crayons I grew up with in Canada. 

Just like the Coupy-Pencil drawing, I started out with a white outline. What I love about Crayola crayons is the unique colour names that they use instead of standard names. I love the wild strawberry. 

Next, we’re going to lay down the yellow and green colours.

The next step is to put the brown colours for shadows in the ice cream scoop. 

Next, we’re going to fill in more detail with additional colours.

Filling in the background with black and browns, and we’re done!

Here are the drawings side by side! Sakura Coupy-Pencils are on the left and Crayola crayons are on the right. The results are pretty similar. I feel that I had more control with the Coupy-Pencils when filling in finer details like the cherry. I would not say that one is better than the other because the crayons themselves are very different. Coupy-Pencils are plastic based, resulting in smoother and crisp lines, while Crayola crayons are wax based, resulting in grittier lines. In order to get the results you want, you have to understand the abilities and limitations of each product. I really like both of them. 

After I finished my illustrations, I ordered some matcha ice cream at Denny’s! Yum!
