「気温が高くてお天気のいい、夏らしい日にしたいこと」を中学生の授業で英作文してみたところ、swimming in the sea, eating ice cream, going to ~と書く生徒がとても多かったです。小学生の子たちからは今年学校で再開されたプール授業のお話をよく聞きます。生徒たちが一昨年よりも去年よりも楽しい夏を過ごせるよう願っています。

生徒と海の話をしていて、ふとthalassophobiaという語を思い出しました。「海洋恐怖症」と訳される語で、本来はDSM-5という分類マニュアルを元にお医者さんが診断する恐怖症の一つだそうです。百聞は一見に…と昔ネットで画像検索してみたことがありますが、「こ、怖っ！(*_*;)」となり後悔しました。興味のある方はぜひ。

アメリカの独立記念日です。

Fourth of July　と言ったりします。

独立記念日って何？と思うかもしれませんが、

簡単に言うと「アメリカの誕生日」でしょうか。

この写真は２０１４年にジョージア州アセンズでウォレンに会った時のもの。ウォレンの家にホームステイしたのは１９９４年なので２０年経ってからの写真です。ウォレンの家には、当時１６歳のライアン、１８歳のウェスリーとハイディ、９歳の小児麻痺のマッシュ―がいました。お母さんはシェリーです。とてもまじめな家庭に滞在したんだと後から感じています。彼らとの出会いがあって、今の自分がいます。体調が戻ったことを報告したいですね。
