My phone likes to share slide shows with me of pictures I took a year ago or two years ago and so-on. Since it’s September, my phone’s been bashing me over the head with pictures I took in September 2019, back in the before times.

That year, I went on a trip to Shikoku with my fellow Hello!s teachers. It had been a really hot and humid summer, and Seattle girl that I was it was absolutely destroying me. The thought of spending hours at a time on a bus and having to do touristy things in the baking heat was not appealing. At all. However, that’s not what happened. While it was still hot and humid in Ogaki, the bus ride to Shikoku was scenic, cloudy, and noticeably cool. There were forests and mountains and rivers and good weather–a very appealing combination. I still got carsick, like I always do, but the bus ride was quite pleasant otherwise. Then we reached Shikoku, and the weather got even better. It was windy and a little rainy, but not pouring, just a light sprinkle. This is my favorite kind of rain. We went sightseeing on this rocky outcropping of an island, saw some whirlpools, and generally enjoyed the sea breeze. Then we continued on some more to an onsen. I greatly dislike being submerged in water, so I didn’t partake of the onsen, but I did enjoy the trek up the nearby mountain for even more sightseeing and good weather. Drank Ramune. Took lots of pictures. The trip back was equally great. We made a brief stop in a village famous for their indigo dye, and I got a cool fedora, among other things. Took lots of pictures of the koi fish.

Honestly, I’d been quite apprehensive about going on that trip to Shikoku. I’d been on school trips before, of course, but I’d never taken a trip somewhere with coworkers before. However, the weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and the sightseeing was fantastic, so I had a really great time. Scrolling through my pictures from that trip brings a smile to my face.

Due to, y’know, the plague and all, travel has been significantly curtailed for obvious and understandable safety reasons. I do miss travelling, though. It’s been a big part of my life since forever. For now, I’ll tide myself over with pictures of old and dreams for the future.

As a man who enjoys training, I like to eat healthy. I usually eat foods like rice, potatoes, chicken, beef, vegetables, fruit, etc. But,sometimes I like to eat something that is not as healthy. We call it cheat foods.  My favorite cheat food is pizza. As much as I love pizza, I only eat it three times a year. This is for a couple reasons. One is that pizza has a lot of calories. If I ate it often, I would become fat. Another reason is that if I eat pizza often, I would get tired of it. So now, I can eat pizza and I do not have to worry about getting fat. 近所に川遊びに行ったある日、亀を見つけました。

以前にも、まったく同様の種類の亀を飼育したことがあるのですが、

庭で日光浴をさせていた際、逃げ出してしまいました。

そんな亀の再来が休み中にあったので、今度は同じようなことにならないように気を付けて、

大きくなるまで飼ってみたいです。

皆さんはボードゲームは好きですか。

子どものころは家族や友だちと色んなゲームをしたのですが

最近はあまりやっていません。

それでも外国で買ってきた”マンカラ”というゲームは面白かった思い出があり

日本でもやってみようと思ったのですが、やり方を忘れてしまいました。

ネットで調べて、何とかできそうな気がしてきたのでうれしいです。

私が買ったのは、木製、ビー玉付き。

手にビー玉を取り、一個ずつ入れていくのが楽しくて・・・

でも頭脳戦なのです。カラカラという音も楽しく五感を使って遊べるので

興味がある方はどうぞ。インテリアにもなりますよ！

アメリカ人の友人にローソンがいます。写真はローソンの家のガレージです。ローソンは、ジョージア校はできたときに、向かいの家に住んでいる小学4年生のわんぱく少年でした。ローソンという名前も日本ではコンビニだし、いたずら好きだったこともあり仲良くなった。まあ、おじさんと小学生でしたが、毎年顔を合わせた上、高校生のときに友人と二人で日本にやってきました。片田舎のジョージア州の普通の高校生が岐阜に来ることなどありえないのですが、日本で一週間過ごす中でもいい時間を過ごしました。はじめはこんなに太っていなかったのですが、徐々に大きくなって今ではこの写真の1.5倍はあるかもしれません。ジョージア校ができてから、20年以上経ち、家の手入れどころか数年前は、壁と床をすべて張り替えなければいけないほどカビが生えていました。ローソンが自分で小さな建設会社、個人ですが、はじめたのですべての工事をその当時は任せました。ジョージア校のセキュリティの契約も日本人だからうまくいかないのも、ローソンが名前を使ってやってくれました。今回も、家に大きなスズメバチの巣を取り除いてkれ足り、便器の交換（20年たっているから）もやってくれています。もちろんビジネスとしてですが。アメリカに行けば、お酒を交わしながら話がゆっくりできる友人、年の差はありますが、20年たって彼も今は結婚をして立派なパパです。そんな友人がいてくれることに感謝です。
