みなさんこんにちは。

梅雨が明けて短い夏休みを外で元気に楽しもうと思っている人も多いのではないでしょうか。

しかし、ゲリラ豪雨には十分気をつけてください！！

多くは夕方に雷や強風と一緒に激しい雨が降ってくる天気です！

「ゲリラ豪雨」という言葉ですが、僕が学生だった頃はそのような言葉はなかったように思います。

お母さんやおばあちゃんがよく使っていた「夕立」という言葉がこの「ゲリラ豪雨」という言葉に変わったのでしょうか。

昔は今の「ゲリラ豪雨」のように激しい天気ではなく、夕方に雨が降ってきて1時間ほどで止んでしまうものでした。

しかしゲリラ豪雨では洪水や土砂崩れなどの自然災害を引き起こす一因となっており、これが原因で命を落とす危険もあります。

新型コロナウイルスや熱中症には十分気をつけなければなりませんが、ゲリラ豪雨にもお気をつけください！

英語でもshower（シャワー） や squall（スコール）という言葉が突然降ってくる雨という意味がありますが、

「ゲリラ豪雨」という言葉の方が日本人には馴染みがあり身が引き締まる言葉かもしれませんね。

Over summer vacation Sam and I decided to go on an adventure and climb Mt. Kinka! I love to go hiking and be in nature, but I am super scared of heights! When I am up high and look down, my hearts beats hard and fast, and I get very scared. But I don’t let that stop me from climbing mountains! It’s important to face your fears so you can become stronger! I want to one day be able to climb a mountain effortlessly and not get scared. The only way I can achieve this dream is to keep practicing. Even if it’s difficult now, I won’t let that stop me!

 One of the best aspects of life is eating. So for today’s blog, I wanted to take the time to show you some pictures of food I’ve gotten to eat throughout my adventures in Japan. These photos also bring me back to a time when Corona wasn’t a thing, and we could roam freely around the country. 

  Anyways, I hope we can get back to that time at some point. In the mean time, lets reminisce together. 

Hello Everyone! Even though I’ve been here since March, Japan is still very new to me. Especially, the food! Everything I have tried has been really delicious, but sometimes, its nice to have something a bit more familiar. Recently, Mariam told me of this place in Ogaki called Chorky’s, an American diner with a great 50s feel! I was really excited to see what the vibe of this diner would be like so we decided to go. And it did not disappoint! The food was amazing and tasted just like something I could get at home. The design and music was perfect to match that 50s style as well. It’s so cool for Ogaki to have a restaurant like this! I highly recommend it!

8月１０日は「山の日」ですね。

以前小学生のレッスンで「登る」という意味の動詞、climbを紹介したとき最後のｂを発音しないことを

子どもたちがなんでだろうと不思議がっていました。日本語と違って英語には書いてあっても

発音しない文字が含まれていることがあり、それが英語を読むことを難しくしていることもありますね。

でも繰り返し読む練習をすることで読めるようになっていくので、これからも少しずつ練習を続けて

いきたいと思います！
