Hey y’all!

  Today I wanted to take some time to talk about my grandmother Toshiko, or Toshi for short. On March 31st, 1936, she was born in Wakkanai, Hokkaido. Wakkanai is the northern most city in Japan, and is extremely cold. In 1959, she met my grandfather, Ross, an American soldier stationed in Wakkanai. Together they had four children, my two aunts, my uncle and my father. Throughout my life, grandma has shown me all the ways she combined Japanese and American cuisine. For example, she makes this red S&B curry/Cambell’s tomato soup dish called Chicken Bombay. It’s absolutely heavenly! She never taught me Japanese though… I really wish she did. 

  Recently, I received a message from second cousin, Tomomi, in Sapporo to come and visit. Now, in March, Ryan and I will take a trip to meet her! I’m so excited to finally see my Japanese family!

一見、かわいらしい海ガメ家族のお話のようですが…。

１回目は気付かないゴミ、人間がもたらしてしまっている生物たちへの影響が、

２回、３回と見るうちに心に刺さりました。

自分たちにできることを１つずつ、実践していかなければ！と思います。

Art does different things for different people. As time goes on, I learn more and more that a lot of people aren’t into art. This isn’t too shocking to me, but I did figure that a lot more people liked art. At the end of January, Sam and I visited The Hyogo Prefecture Museum. Just by coincidence we had noticed that they had a Van Gogh exhibit on display. Going up a learned a lot about Van Gogh but I had never seen any of his actual pieces of art. I thought this was wonderful!

This exhibit had a layout that showed his earlier works and transitioned slowly into his most famous pieces. At first I was a little underwhelmed because I had never seen his earlier works. This had put a lot of things into perspective for me because most of the time people thing that this famous artist are just prodigies and didnt have to work to this greatness. It made me feel that anything is possible after watching this exhibit. If you work hard you will acheive your goal and to never give up on your dreams…

I have two cats, Nick and Teddy. Nick is all black and Teddy is white and brown. They are brothers and spend all day together, but somehow they are still really friendly and sweet to one another…

My apartment has a big glass door in the living room, so it is pretty cold even with the heater running. You can really feel the wind coming from outside… Nick and Teddy are really good at huddling together for warmth. It looks so cute and it must feel really comfortable too… I am jealous!
